5 rising stars honored at 2018 Women’s Achievement Awards

'We wanted to really highlight our focus around women entrepreneurs.'

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In recognition of women making an impact in the Philadelphia area, KYW Newsradio hosted the ninth annual Women's Achievement Awards Thursday night, highlighting five rising stars.

Rachel Heath of Exelon Limerick educates girls about nuclear power and encourages them to explore math and science.

"It's huge to feel like you inspire people," Heath said. "This is a great honor, and I am happy to be here."

Melany Bustillos with Cigna was recognized for being a force in her community working to increase Latino college graduation rates. 

"Wow, I'm so excited to be here. It's been such a great journey and great honor," Bustillos said.

Emily Martin, honored for her work in child cancer research stood alongside Lauren Miller. They were honored for her work in bolstering cancer research and awareness. Miller was impressed by the large turn out.

"I'm very fortunate that so many people could come tonight," Miller said.

Ebony Wortham, who received an award for her philanthropic work with youth in the community. She said it takes a village, and she is thankful. 

"Awesome people have come out to support us as we are honored here tonight," Wortham said. 

Susan Quigley with West Chester-based QVC, a sponsor, said that lifting women up was the goal of the evening.

"We wanted to really highlight our focus around women entrepreneurs," Quigley said. "Their stories of grit and determination is inspiring to all of us."

KYW Newsradio's Carole MacKenzie emceed the event, and Lilly Pulitzer CEO Michelle Kelly gave the keynote address.
