PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Before Tuesday night's Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park, 20 people became American citizens, and they couldn't be happier.

Smiles and selfies were abundant when the newest Americans took the field. Linda Callahan had her 82-year-old mother fly in from Dublin to watch on the 12th annual Irish Heritage night at the ballpark.

"Been my long-time dream to be able to be a citizen of this great nation. I'm just thrilled," she enthused.

"God blessed me with the situation," echoed Daniel Volcy from Haiti. "I passed the test, became a U.S. citizen. It's a pleasure."

Mayor Jim Kenney welcomed the citizens and hopes to attend many more of these ceremonies.

"We're very proud of these folks, but there's lots of people we could use in this country who have good brains and hard work ethics," he said.
