PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Beau Bell was about as good a defensive player as the Arena Football League had to offer during his playing career.

It was a career the linebacker wrapped up with three seasons in Philadelphia, the final one being 2017. During his playing days with the Philadelphia Soul, the team won back-to-back Arena Bowl titles.

Now Bell is back in Philadelphia and hoping to bring an Arena Bowl title to town in a new role. In late September, he was hired as the team's new general manager and assistant coach.

"That was the next step for me," Bell said. "Coaching and being in the front office, personnel side, to be able to find talent and help build a football team has been my goal. It's a blessing to be on this side and get the opportunity to do it."

Bell got his first taste of life as a coach and in a front office during this past season with the Albany Empire, serving as director of player personnel and pass rush coordinator.

Bell will be working very closely with Clint Dolezel in Philadelphia, and the Soul's head coach is thrilled to have Bell on board.

"I love Beau," he said. "Beau as a player was a true professional, and so far as the GM he's been the same thing. He works hard; he wants to be good at what he does."

The Soul went 7-5 in 2018, and Bell said building upon a roster will improve that record.

"We can build up every single position," Bell added. "Arena football is built on the inside going out, just like every other football team is, and I think every position is important. So building inside out, find the best players on the inside going out, that's how we want to start it."
