PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- You can honor a fallen hero by just rolling up your sleeve next month.

Michelle Scolnick holds blood drives four times a year in honor of her mother, but the event on May 8 is in memory of Captain Matthew LeTourneau, a Philadelphia firefighter who was a regular blood donor. Scolnick says a benefactor has also agreed to sweeten the pot.

"A monetary donation will be made for every unit of blood in Matt's memory to the Philadelphia Second Alarmers, an organization chosen by Matt's family," she explained. "This is an all volunteer organization that provides support to first responders on the scene of disasters."

You can sign up to donate through the American Red Cross, or donate anywhere. Post a picture on social media with #givebloodtohonormatt, and that will be counted too.
