PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For those who don't have access to Uber or Lyft there is an Election Day service called Carpool Vote.

Carpool Vote car sharing service specifically helps voters get free rides to their polling places. But on Election Day the company's website experienced some technical difficulties making it difficult to connect drivers with potential passengers.

Melissa Hecht signed up to be one of the drivers.

"There's a website, there is no app.  You sign up to be a driver or if you need a ride and they make the matches," she said. "I wasn't able to accept the offers, I didn't get the phone numbers, so I've just been trying to show up and maybe I'll catch somebody who hasn't had a driver."

By the time she arrived at most of her passengers' homes, her services were no longer needed.

"Everybody else I've tried to get to has already voted, so they were successful. I'm not sure if they used Carpool Vote to do it, but the fact is that they got to the polls and were able to vote," she said.

Hecht says she's frustrated but not completely discouraged. She was able to help one person.

"One person!  It's a little bit frustrating but good to know that people are voting," she said.

She says she thinks Carpool Vote is a great idea, but she hopes they get some tech support in time for the next election.
