Central Pa. casino likely to host first Pennsylvania sports book

Harrisburg, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — It appears that a casino near Harrisburg will be the first to open a sports book in Pennsylvania. Sports betting at other locations is unlikely before December.

So far, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has approved sports wagering for Parx Casino and Hollywood Casino near Harrisburg.

But before those casinos can take bets, the board must approve the oddsmakers that will work with the casinos and as of the close of business Tuesday, only the oddsmaker for Hollywood Casino was teed up for a vote on conditional approval at today’s monthly gaming board meeting. 

A board spokesman says, however, that with construction and staff training still to be done, the opening of Hollywood’s sports book is still likely at least a few weeks away. After today, the next scheduled gaming board meeting in Nov. 28.
