PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will hold a special reunion on its University City campus on Sunday.

Some 400 former patients who underwent fetal surgery and their family members will gather at CHOP for a reunion with some of the members of the surgical teams and support staff who cared for them.

They're coming to the Philadelphia area this weekend from more than 22 states to take part.

Dr. Scott Adzick, surgeon-in-chief at CHOP and founder of the Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment, says the private affair is one of his favorite events.

Adzick says it renews a bond that patients and families will not soon forget.

"It is a lifelong bond between the team members and those patients that we've treated before, during or after birth," he said.

Adzick says the event also reminds his team of doctors, researchers, nurses and support staff of the fruits of their work: Saving lives so as to save lifetimes.
