PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Ultimate Philly Food Truck Celebration is being held Sunday at New Liberty Distilling in Kensington.

Danya Henninger, editor in chief of Billy Penn, the organization hosting the food truck competition, says just a few years ago there were limited places for food trucks to vend.

"But they formed the Philly Mobile Food Association and lobbied for legislation that would allow them to vend, and now there are spaces, now City Hall welcomes food trucks to their courtyard," Henninger said.  "In the redesign of Love Park, part of the design was to make it more welcoming for food trucks."

She says readers nominated and voted on their favorite food trucks in a March Madness style bracket. Some of the food highlights include cheese curds and tacos, but also...

"People feel very strongly about tater tots...totchos."

Nowadays, Henninger says with the variety of food being offered across the city you can really get a taste of a culture without going very far.

"Especially if you take the time to connect with the people who are running the restaurant," she said. "A lot of times they have their own stories and a lot of the newer restaurants are opened by immigrants and cooking the food from their home countries. It's a way of telling their story."
