PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Bridget Orchard has enjoyed a ton of success as a collegiate softball coach. She's currently the head coach at Villanova University and in 2020 she should surpass the 800 win plateau for her career.

Orchard played her college softball at Villanova and once she graduated, she quickly got her first coaching job as the head coach at Division III Cabrini University out in Radnor. In fact, Orchard has never served as an assistant coach; she's always run her own program.

She talks about doing things her own way.

"I was never afraid to make mistakes. I think that was what made me be able to do what I do, because I made tons of mistakes along the way and I'm still making mistakes, but I was doing my own thing. I'm like, 'Here, lets see what happens!' Jump in and do it your own way, kind of come up with your own philosophies, change your philosophies. I had a lot of mentors along the way that I kind of research and talk to. I'm not afraid to ask for help."

Orchard says having good relationships with her players has been critical to her success as a head coach.

"All the girls that we've crossed paths with, all my players, you form this relationship with. I think that's kind of fun and unique. I think I do that pretty well. I get involved with them and I really care about what they're doing outside of softball. It's so fun, we're going to their weddings and they're having babies and I think that's the coolest thing, too. So we have a network of all these kids you've coached and now you see them go on, some of them are coaching themselves, which is really cool. We have nurses and doctors and lawyers and it's just kind of cool, you're like, 'Wow' you kind of had a part in their lives and it's neat for me to see them do all that stuff."
