Alternative exercises for couch potatoes

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Lots of Americans freely admit that they are couch potatoes. However, being a couch potato does not mean you need to avoid exercise and sit around and put on weight. 

Obviously, the best option is to limit your time on the sofa watching television and trying to get out there at exercise. But even if you choose to spend your entire evening watching television you can do things to help yourself. You can walk or jog in place while watching television, and you can practice yoga. You could also lift light weights and, if you're fortunate enough to have a treadmill in your home, you can walk on the treadmill while watching TV. 

There is another thing that you can do at home if you're not a person that needs to focus on what's on the television. Household tasks, such as organizing the closet,  cleaning up the bedroom, are great ways to burn energy. 

The message here is that you don't always have to be out of a health club or play competitive sports to help burn calories. There are lots of ways to do it.
