PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- What a  great way to break up the week!

Independence Day is a time of celebration, and for many of us an opportunity to get together with family and friends. Of course, there is always one major danger we worry about on July 4: injury from fireworks.

In recent years, it has become far easier to obtain fireworks and sadly this also means it's far easier for people who have not been trained to use them to risk injury.

It gets worse.

A growing number of family parties and picnics have fireworks playing a part in them. What was once virtually limited to dramatic professional displays is now something that almost anyone can try to do.

The most important advice I can give is that you should be extremely careful. If you plan to be lighting fireworks yourself, please make sure you have some training and hopefully experience in the past where you have been supervised.

Do not consume alcoholic beverages when lighting fireworks.

If you happen to be at an event where fireworks are being lit by non-professionals please be very careful.
