PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- This week on Flashpoint: Host and KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about guns as the country marks the 20th anniversary of the Columbine massacre and the 12th anniversary of the Virginia Tech mass shooting. In 2017, 40,000 Americans died due to gun violence the highest number of deaths in 50 years. In New Zealand, the world watched that country's lawmakers banned high powered rifles just days after a mass shooting at a mosque. Why is America so slow to make change or deal with the issue of mass shootings?  We walk through the flames with Shira Goodman, Executive Director Ceasefire; Jonathan Goldstein, an attorney who represents the National Rifle Association in Philadelphia; Serita Lewis, Executive Director of March for Our Lives Philadelphia and Savannah Lindquist, a sexual assault survivor turned gun rights advocate.

The Flashpoint newsmaker of the week is Brandon Flood, the newly appointed secretary for the Board of Pardons in Pennsylvania.  Flood has worked in state government in Harrisburg in various capacities over the past years, but he also successfully navigated the clemency process. He received a pardon for multiple crimes he committed in his teens and 20s earlier this year. Flood discusses his vision for his new position, and why his appointment is brining hope for so many.
