PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This week on Flashpoint: Host and KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about the impact of the Trump administration policies on the Philadelphia region.

This past week, Vice President Mike Pence visited the city on the offense. He published an op-ed before his visit, arguing that the "Make America Great Again" policies have been positive for the city's bottom line. Greeted by protesters, Pence gave a speech at the Union League, making the pitch to Republicans that the low unemployment rate, tax cuts and the boosts to defense spending, among other efforts, has helped the region. Joel Naroff, president of Naroff Economic Advisors; Michael Meehan, chairman of the Philadelphia Republican Party; and Rev. Gregory Holston, executive director of POWER; analyze what the stats touted by Pence really mean to the residents of Philadelphia.

The Newsmaker of the week is Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, who sat down with Flashpoint host Cherri Gregg soon after being elected. In this follow up interview, they talk about Krasner's successes, his challenges and challengers. Krasner blew into office on the winds of a progressive movement demanding reforms. He's faced pushback and many critics who say he's too cozy with radical activists and doesn't appear to be tough on crime. Krasner discusses the progress made, the resistance to change and his next big announcement.
Finally, the Changemaker of the week is North Broad Renaissance and Philly Free Streets. The two efforts will converge on Aug. 11 for the 12th annual Jazz on the Avenue Music Festival on Cecil B. Moore Avenue with free concerts from 12 to 8 p.m. Earlier in the day, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Philly Free Streets will shut down North Broad Street to traffic to allow residents to use the corridor for play. Kenneth Scott, CEO of the Beech Companies, joins Charlotte Caste, Philly Free Streets program manager, to discuss the big day.
