PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This week on Flashpoint: Host and KYW Newsradio Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about climate change. For decades, politicians have debated whether climate change is real, but in recent years the evidence of impact is growing.

In the past few weeks, we've seen fires in California, floods in the Midwest and out of season tornadoes in the greater Philadelphia area. Some candidates seeking national office are including climate change in their platform, but how do you make it a priority issue locally and in the 2020 presidential campaign.

Climate change attorney Robert B McKinstry joins Nicole Karsch of the Sunrise Movement, University of Pennsylvania professor and director of Kleinman Center for Energy Policy Dr. Mark Hughes and Philadelphia City Councilman At-Large Derek Green for this weekend's debate.

The newsmaker of the week is Terrance Lewis, who was exonerated after spending 21 years behind bars for a 1996 robbery murder. Lewis was 17 when he was charged with the crime and sentenced to mandatory life without parole.

Now 40, he was released unexpectedly and will spend his first father's day ever as a free man. Part of Lewis' legal team, attorneys Kevin Harden and Shari Maynard, join him in explaining his unique circumstances.

The changemaker of the week is the Pennsylvania Juneteenth Festival and Parade. In its fourth year, the event celebrates the date that African Americans in rural Texas finally found out they were free - 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. That date, June 19, 1865 - Emancipation Day - has become a day of celebration among black people in America. So on Saturday, June 22, 2019, a parade involving 2,000 people will celebrate freedom. The event starts at noon at 52nd and Jefferson streets. Parade producer Sonni King provides details. More at http://juneteenthphilly.org/.
