PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Physicians and medical organizations are scrambling. They are doing all that they can to try to reduce the use of opioid medication. All sorts of non-opioid methods are being looked into because of the disastrous effects and potential addiction properties of opioids.

A new report has taken a look at the use of a 15 minute pre-operative hypnosis session given to women prior to minor breast cancer surgery. The research was done in France and the hope was that there would be a big difference.

Unfortunately, no significant difference was found between the group that had hypnosis prior to surgery and the group that did not receive hypnosis.

Nevertheless, alternative therapies continue to be studied as ways to avoid the use of opioids.
