PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — From bath bombs to mayonnaise, it seems as if you can get every product on the market infused with CBD oil, the trendiest salve that is marketed as a cure-all for everything from anxiety to insomnia.

CBD oil is a cannabinoid oil that can be extracted from either hemp or marijuana plants but doesn't contain the psychoactive ingredient THC, which is why many people think it's legal in all 50 states.
It isn't.

State laws are varied and confusing. In the nine states where recreational marijuana use is legal, so too is CBD oil. In some but not all states in which medical marijuana is legal, CBD products are legal only with a prescription card. In four states, it's illegal.

You can check your state at isum.com, but remember: Even if you can get the oil legally, like any medication, its effectiveness depends on purity and dosage.

And like any product, you can't believe all the benefits the ads say it has. Sometimes, it's the bath and not the CBD bath bombs that relax you.
