PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — For many, Memorial Day is one of the happiest days of the year because it is the unofficial start of the summer. But there are some important health tips that are worth mentioning on this day.

Perhaps the most important is the fact that there will be many people who are celebrating and you need to make certain that if you are getting behind the wheel of a car, you have not been drinking alcohol. You also need to make certain that those in the car are in seatbelts.

And, of course, there are the barbecue warnings.

I tend not to overdo it with advice on holidays like Memorial Day because I believe it is a time to celebrate and have fun and you may want to eat some of those foods that you normally don't. The key is to keep everything in moderation.

If you control your portions, you can experience all of the delights of a barbecue and get back to more healthy eating for the rest of the week.
