PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Telehealth is a genie that has been released from the bottle and if used properly, it could be one of the biggest developments of the past decade.

In typical telehealth visits, patients can consult with their doctors through video chat. Clearly, there is no way that a video chat can replace a one on one visit, but for people who are far from medical centers and professional care as well as for those who have the need for follow-up visits and general health concerns, telehealth serves as a way to reach out and recheck out in many cases to the under served.

There are two key areas where there has been focused results that have been dramatic: Dermatology and psychiatry. Psychiatry in particular is an area where there is a shortage of providers, and the hope is that telehealth could make a difference.
