PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- It is a common lament among the physicians after they complete their rounds in the hospital. Many of the patients are there as a direct result of their own doing.

Certainly there are health conditions in which there is little that we can do about. But the common things that we suggest that all of us should do to remain healthy need to become part of our daily lives. Things like exercise, cutting back on alcohol and eating healthier foods, doing what we can to lose weight, and taking prescribed medications as directed.

Yes, there are exceptions. There are stories of people who smoke or drink and have a rather poor diet who don't seem to have the overall health impact. But these are the exceptions.

We should all make lifestyle decisions. Play the percentages and make them in your favor.
