PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In today’s health care environment, there are many ways to see physicians and get care.

In fact, with the loosening of laws and the shortage of primary care, nurse practitioners are growing in popularity and staffing many health care settings — particularly urgent care.

So what is the best choice? According to a report in the JAMA Internal Medicine edition, patients who received primary care in a traditional family physician’s office received significantly more high-value care and had better experiences compared to those patients who did not have primary care.

Urgent care and emergency care certainly have their place for a one-time visit for a single problem.

It depends what your needs are, but you should be aware of different options as well as their strengths and limitations.
