PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This is bad news for people who like to drink sugary beverages.

According to a new study, people who consume more of their daily calories from sugary beverages - including 100% fruit juice - had a higher risk for death from heart disease or death from any cause.

Fruit juices are still considered healthier options than soda, energy drinks and fruit punch, but just because the sugar in 100% fruit juice is considered natural does not mean that it is any less damaging once metabolized by our bodies.

In case you were wondering, the researchers also compared 100% fruit juice with whole fruit consumption, and they found that the whole fruit was by far healthier and less linked to the risk of type 2 diabetes.
