PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to the 2019 report from the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is still the most common form of cancer in the United States.

However, the most concerning news has to do with the incidence of malignant melanoma, which is the most serious form of skin cancer.

Cases of melanoma are expected to increase by almost 6 percent to an estimate of 96,000 cases in 2019.

The good news is more people are going to their doctors and getting screened for skin cancer, which is resulting in a greater number of cases being diagnosed.

The bad news is that people may not be paying his much attention to skin and sun safety.

It is recommended that sun block be used all year round and that it be used liberally during intense exposures to the sun.
