PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- According to a new study, women with diabetes are at a slightly greater risk to develop cancer than men who have the condition.

According to a study out of the University of New South Wales in Australia, women with diabetes are at a 27% increased risk for any type of cancer compared to a 19% increased risk for man with diabetes.

Looked at another way, the cancer risk was 6% higher for women than men with diabetes.

This is an important study because it not only emphasizes the importance of testing people with diabetes for potential risk for various forms of cancer, but also stresses the importance of evaluating women in particular.
