PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — "Fantastic Beasts" had a fantastic opening weekend.

The second "Harry Potter" spinoff, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald," finished first at the box office on its first weekend of release, earning an estimated $62 million.
Last weekend's leader, "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch," dropped to second place but still took in $38 million.

The holdover "Bohemian Rhapsody" was third with $16 million.

And the weekend's two new titles rounded out the top five.

Fourth was "Instant Family" starring Mark Wahlberg, with $15 million, while fifth was "Widows" with Viola Davis.

It earned 12 million.

Overall, industry-wide totals were equivalent to those of last weekend, but well below those of a year ago.
