Weekend Box Office Report: 'Solo' sputters in second weekend

June 03, 2018 - 12:41 pm

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — "Solo: A Star Wars Story" may be performing below industry expectations, but it still managed to score another first-place finish.

The Star Wars franchise spinoff earned an estimated $29 million on its second weekend of release, falling 65 percent from its debut weekend.

The space saga, however, pushes its cumulative take close to the $150 million mark.

The holdover sequel, "Deadpool 2," was the runner-up with a respectable $23 million.

And the debuting survival thriller, "Adrift" with Shailene Woodley, was third with an opening weekend total of $12 million.

All told, industry-wide totals were far below both those of last weekend and those of the counterpart weekend a year ago.
