Weight loss can ease symptoms of menopause, study finds
KYW’s Medical Reports Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- With so much concern over hormones, there has been a great deal of controversy about treatments for menopause, and many people are concerned about ways to reduce some of the annoying symptoms that occur with this phase of a woman’s life.
Many women don’t know that lifestyle changes such as weight loss and low-fat diets can help.
In a study of more than 15,000 postmenopausal women, ages 50-79, who ate various diets and were followed for one year, those women who lost either ten pounds or more than 10% of their original weight were more likely to report improvement of their symptoms.
Women who ate a low-fat diet were also more likely to report improvement.
Clearly lifestyle can play a major role.
