PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The 9th annual culinary extravaganza known as Feastival is less than two weeks away.

For the 9th year, local chefs are raising money money for the arts with Feastival.

"Every year we usually have 60 of what I consider the best chefs in the city come and put on this great event," said Feastival co-host Nick Elmi.

He says this year, they're pairing up the chefs, who will be concocting 30 unique appetizer sized dishes.

"So we'll take chefs who typically haven't worked together and have different cuisines," Elmi said, "and we're kind of assigning people different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia to be inspired by."

The chosen neighborhoods:

"West Philly, South Philly, Chinatown, Northeast and Kensington/Fishtown," Elmi said.

Elmi describes what it was like pairing up the chefs behind the scenes.

"Everybody was really excited to find out who they were working with," he said. 'Some people were positioning for who they wanted to work with and I was like, 'it doesn't work like that.'"

He says he hopes the chefs can learn from each other.

"The best part about it is you'll probably get these one-off dishes that you haven't seen before and probably will never see again," Elmi said.

The 9th annual Feastival takes place on Thursday, September 27. Elmi says all the proceeds go to Fringe Arts and they've raised $3 million since its inception.

The goal this year is to raise $500,000.
