Former Philly officer charged with sexually assaulting woman while on duty

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former Philadelphia police officer has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman while on duty.

Federal prosecutors say Thomas O'Neill, 47, was in uniform and armed on July 3, 2016, when he drove a woman to a school parking lot and sexually assaulted her.

U.S. Attorney William McSwain says O'Neill faces several other charges, including abuse of power.

Former Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams never filed charges in this case.

O'Neill faces a maximum of 10 years in prison if convicted.
