PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The extremely hot weather can take a toll on many things, including your car. But there are things you can do to make sure your vehicle survives a heat wave.

AAA Mid-Atlantic's Jana Tidwell says car batteries can become vulnerable as the tempratures soar.

"Often times AAA replaces more car batteries in the extreme heat than we do in the extreme cold," Tidwell said.

So she urges drivers to test those batteries now, before they die. And check those tires too while your at it.

"Make sure that they are properly inflated," Tidwell advised. "Not overinflated, not underinflated, because the heat also has an effect on tires."

AAA also reccomends making sure the fluids are full.

"In addition to windshield wiping fluid, the oil, transmission fluid, power steering," Tidwell explained.

And adding some bottled water to the vehicle emergency kit, Tidwell says, should be in your car year-round.
