It's a nightclub experience during the day.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- You don't need the night to boogie. Just ask those who got down Saturday morning in North Philadelphia.

A couple hundred people spent the morning dancing at the Divine Lorraine Hotel with DJ Del for a party known as a Daybreaker.

"It’s a world-wide event that happens early morning, alcohol free, with yoga, as well as a dance party," DJ Del explained. "It’s in 24 countries around the world. A half-million people participate globally, and it just started in Philly."

DJ Del says the party is usually held during the week.

"What’s great about it is it’s usually 6 to 7 a.m. yoga and then 7 to 9 a.m. a dance party, so the people that go to school or work can start their day in a really healthy and uplifting way,” he said.

And every month Daybreaker chooses a different venue.

"We’ve been at Rumour, we've been at the One Liberty Observation Deck in April for In the Clouds, Mermaids on the Moshulu in May," said organizer Luna May. "And we're so excited to be at the Divine Lorraine and turn the lights on after years and years of it being abandoned."

The theme of this particular event was called "A Journey Through Time." The Divine Lorraine was transformed into a collection of time capsule moments, meant to capture the spirit of every era since it first opened.

And like all Daybreaker events, Luna says, it's an experience not centered around drugs or alcohol.

"It's a sober experience," she said, "so you can feel the rhythm and build community together in a space different than a nightclub."
