PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- Philadelphia police were searching for the gunman who shot a man during a home invasion in the city's Overbrook neighborhood.

It happened around midnight Tuesday in the 5500 block of Hunter Street.

Police say the suspect got into the home through the front door, which was left open. Investigators say he went upstairs, robbed one man at gunpoint and pistol-whippped another.

A short time later, a 29-year-old man who lives at the residence came home and went up the stairs. Chief Inspector Scott Small says he saw the gunman and ran back down.

"While running down the steps, the shooter fired one shot, striking the 29-year-old in the back," Small said.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police say the shooter took off with a cell phone belonging to one of the residents of the home.
