PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — More Than Just Ice Cream will be closing its doors for good Thursday night after more than 40 years in business.

Customers are saying goodbye and ordering their favorite foods and treats for the last time.

More Than Just Ice Cream originally open in 1975 on Pine Street. In 1998, it relocated a couple blocks away to its current spot in the 1100 block of Locust Street.

With the high cost of rent, the current proprietors — the third to own the business — decided it was time to pursue other interests and to close up shop.

Sherrie Billè of Bellmawr, New Jersey, wanted to experience one last meal. She has been a customer since she was in nursing school in the '70s.

"At Jefferson, we had upperclassmen that called themselves 'big sisters,' and they showed us the cafeteria for dinner our first day at Jefferson, and then they took us to [More Than> Just Ice Cream for years, and that was a tradition at Jefferson for years and years," she remembered.

On of the most popular desserts served over the years was the Famous Mile High Apple Pie, served with ice cream, caramel sauce and whipped cream.
