PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It invaded South Philadelphia and stole our hearts, but now, it's time for the tentacle-based creature to say farewell.

The art installation was added to the Navy Yard about a month ago, which displays a purple, blue and green sea monster weaving in between the windows and walls of an old warehouse.

The Navy Yard is hosting a farewell party for its now-beloved sea monster — known around the yard as Betty — on Friday between 5 and 8 p.m.

The sea monster was curated by the anonymous Group X, and its U.K.-based artist, Filthy Luker, will be in attendance to see Betty set sail from the Navy Yard.

Filthy Luker will be available for a meet-and-greet at the free farewell party Friday, which is open to the public and family-friendly.

At 7:59 p.m., visitors will begin a countdown to "lights off" for Betty. A Champagne toast and food trucks will be on-site for pay-as-you-go snacking.

The sea monster is located at the corner of 13th Street and Flagship Avenue in the Navy Yard.
