FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities are investigating the scene in Montgomery County where the bodies of an elderly couple were found in the front yard of their home.

The bodies were found late Tuesday morning after a postal worker called police.

Before police could search the property, SWAT had to clear the area. They found no other threat on the property, which is located on South Bethlehem Pike near the turnpike.

Several schools were locked down until the all-clear was given.

Sources say there were no obvious signs of fatal wounds to the pair, who were in their 80s. Authorities also won’t know the cause or manner of death until an autopsy is performed, which is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Names will not be released until the family is notified.

According to Whitemarsh police, there has not been a murder in the township for 17 years, before a gruesome attack in August where a man stabbed and ran over a woman repeatedly outside her work.

This is a developing story.
