BENSALEM, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Two men are in the Bucks County Correctional Facility after attempting to break into a number of vehicles in a Bensalem shopping center.

The two suspects were spotted by a Bensalem police officer pulling on door handles of vehicles in an Acme parking lot at the Woodhaven Mall on Friday. The officer recognized them as two who were wanted for similar crimes earlier in the day from Colonial Point Apartments, where they took credit cards and other items from those vehicles.

Police arrested 29-year-old Patrick Ivers at the scene. The second man, 31-year-old John Palumbo, jumped into a Cadillac, slammed into a police cruiser, and then led police on a chase down Bristol Pike.

He abandoned the car at the Gatehouse Apartments on State Road and ran into Salem Harbour Apartments. A police dog tracked Palumbo, who tried to escape by wading into the Delaware River but returned to shore and surrendered after several minutes.

Both men were charged with theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. Palumbo is also charged with hit-and-run, eluding police and resisting arrest.

Ivers is being held on 10 percent of $100,000 bail. Palumbo's bail is 10 percent of $500,000.
