PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men were killed in North Philadelphia Tuesday — making 2019 a record-breaker for the most homicides in the city in a single year in more than a decade.

Authorities say a 47-year-old was shot in the chest and arm outside Temple University Hospital, along Germantown Avenue near West Tioga Street, around 11 a.m.

Around 2 p.m. in Hunting Park, a man was shot in the back and arm and died shortly thereafter.

Tuesday's homicides raise the toll to 355, surpassing last year’s record-breaking year of 353 — the most killings seen in Philadelphia since 2007.

In 2007, there were 391 homicides in Philly, 331 in 2008, and 353 in 2018.
