PAULSBORO, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Twenty-one people have been rounded up after a lengthy drug probe centering in Paulsboro. One of the key suspects was out on bail, awaiting trial in a fatal shooting in the town two years ago.

Darnell Samuels, 35, of Wilmington, Delaware, is charged in connection with the Father's Day 2016 slaying of 24-year-old Jonathan Gardner. Originally held on $1 million bail, that amount was lowered to $35,000 without explanation. That trial is still pending.

Samuels is now accused of supplying cocaine and other drugs from Texas to 31-year-old Duane Johns of Paulsboro, who allegedly ran a ring targeted by federal, state and local officials in an action dubbed "Operation Red Raider."

Three of those rounded up are relatives of Johns — all told, 14 suspects live in Paulsboro.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said both Samuels and Johns are in custody in connection with the drug raids.
