PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to investigators, the people who stole $450,000 worth of hospital equipment knew specifically what they wanted and where they were going.

On April 20, at least three people stole expensive colonoscopes from Lankenau Medical Center.

Lower Merion police released a video of the people they think stole the devices.

"They obviously knew where they were going," said  Detective Sgt. Michael Vice, "and it looked like the one subject was actually used as a look out, kind of watching the front lot."

The colonoscopes were stored behind two locked doors, which were forced open. Since the devices are specialized and have serial numbers, they are are now listed in a stolen items database.

"That leads you to believe there’s potential this could have been something where they’re targeted to steal these specific items and then to potentially be sold out on a black market somewhere," Vice added.

He believes the theft occurred between 3 and 5 p.m. Police are asking anyone who recognizes the three people or saw anything at the hospital to call the Lower Merion Police Department.
