PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The quad at Drexel University is the heart of campus. And after four years, its face-lift was completed Wednesday.

What was once a place people walked past as quickly as possible has been transformed into an urban oasis complete with grass, plants and even some adirondack chairs.

"Every campus needs a home base like this," said Drexel President John Fry.

Fry said the Korman Center and the quad will be the most popular hangout on campus in no time.

"You can just see it in motion right now," he added. "There's not a day when this isn't full of people."

The $16 million project was funded by the Hyman Korman Family Foundation.

Chairman Larry Korman, a Drexel grad himself, couldn't be happier with the results.

"The time phase was exactly when my daughter started here four years ago to when she's graduating," he said. "To see the catharsis over that four-year period was spectacular."
