PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Archdiocese of Philadelphia is holding a seven hour prayer vigil of reparation and petition Friday, until midnight, amid the ongoing clergy sex abuse crisis.

The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is home to this extended prayer session.

"To pray for victims of abuse, to pray for every member of the church, to pray for a profound healing," said Father Dennis Gill.

A healing, Gill says, only comes about, “If we're willing to be delivered from sin and evil.”

Among those attending is Lois Gianneschi, who says she is there to show support for the abuse victims and the church.

"It's also important to show support for the church and penance for what has happened, even if we didn't perpetrate it, it touches us deeply," she said.

She feels she needed to gather with fellow Catholics to express all that.
