PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Arena Football League, which already has a franchise in Philadelphia, is getting a new club in Atlantic City.

The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority has preliminarily approved a three-year non-binding agreement with the six-team league and will modify Boardwalk Hall, where home games will be played.

“We’re excited to be putting a team in Atlantic City and I think Atlantic City is excited to have a team,” AFL Commissioner Randall Boe told KYW Newsradio. “So I think it’s going to be a great partnership between the league and the ownership and the state of New Jersey.”

Trifecta Sports and Entertainment will own the franchise. Former Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski and onetime coach Dick Vermeil are part of that entity. They also own the Philadelphia Soul and a franchise in Albany, New York. There are also franchises in Baltimore, Washington and Tampa Bay.

First up for Atlantic City is putting a team together and coming up with a name. Fans are being asked to come up with that online.

Boe says there may be some additional expansion before a 12-game schedule is released. The first games this season are expected in late April.
