PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A New Jersey developer hopes to bring attention to the city of Camden with a pop-up beer garden starting August 1.

The beer garden in the empty lot at 317 Market Street, in Camden, will be called the Camden Arts Yard.

"One of the cool things about beer gardens is it becomes a social place and part of the redevelopment of the city is you want people walking around," said Damon Pennington.

Pennington owns properties in Camden located between 3rd and 5th Street on Market Street.

He says the Camden Arts Yard Beer Garden is the beginning of an effort to keep people in the area after business hours.

"There's two billion dollars worth of development with a lot of large companies moving to Camden and one of the things that we noticed is the one thing that you need is amenities."

And Pennington promises those amenities are coming:

"I think there are a lot of special things that can happen in the city and the beer garden is really just the catalyst to a lot of special things to come," he adds.
