PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police hope to identify a man on surveillance footage after a Labor Day weekend attack leaves a man injured and popular South Philadelphia business missing more than $16,000.

On Friday, police have released surveillance video of an assault and robbery of an elderly man in South Philadelphia's Pennsport neighborhood.

We now know the victim was 87-year-old Ralph Dimeo, a close friend to owner of Tony Luke's resturant chian.

Nicky Luke, owner of Tony Luke's says he was running late to pick up the money from his restaurant on Labor Day, so he asked Dimeo to pick up the money from the long weekend and bring it to their commissary.

Luke says the attacker assaulted and robbed his family friend when Dimeo was steps from the door. He says it was as if the man knew exactly what was in the bag.

"I think it's an inside job,” he said. “So when Ralph came to the store to pick up the money, maybe somebody got to him."

Reporter: "Because otherwise, it would've been you."

"Right, it would've been me and he would've had another thing coming if it was me," he said.

In the video, a man in his 30s or late 20s is shown with his hands in the pockets of a gray zip-up hoodie. He looks across the street to where Dimeo was.

The suspect can be seen crossing the street and pushing the Dimeo down to the ground, near some construction cones. Then he grabs the the bag and takes off.

Authorities had said that the bag was filled with payroll and receipts.

Luke estimates that the man got away with about $17,000 dollars, and hopes that somone can help identify him.

"South Philly's like a small community. You know, we've been in that area for like 35-40 years at 4th and Morris (Streets) and I'm hoping that the community comes together and recognizes this kid or knows this kid to get him off the street because he's gonna do it again," he said.

Luke says Dimeo is healing, but he's still mad.

"A real scumbag to go after an 87-year-old," he added.
