PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An accident at 11th and Vine streets sent a bicyclist to the hospital on Friday morning and caused some congestion at a busy Center City intersection.

Investigators say it appears as though the vehicle traveling west on Vine Street struck the bicyclist heading north on 11th Street around 6:30 a.m.

The cyclist, a 23-year-old man, was rushed to Hahnemann Hospital a few blocks away, where he is in critical condition.

The mountain bike was a mess of twisted metal, the front wheel almost bent into a C. By shortly before 8 a.m., large chunks of black plastic from the vehicle involved in the collision have been cleared from the scene, but little shards of plastic and some blood remained on the roads.

Authorities say the motorist remained on scene after the accident and he's cooperating with police.

It looks like someone ran a red light. Police say there is a surveillance camera at the corner here, so they'll check later Friday morning to see who was at fault.
