ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) -- A terrifying attack at an Atlantic City resort last summer will leave a Bucks County man behind bars for the next 16 years.

David Legette of Bristol Township pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of a former girlfriend who had a restraining order against him.

It happened last July in the parking garage at Caesar's Hotel and Casino. Atlantic County prosecutors say the 54-year-old trapped the woman in his car by child-locking the doors, and then stabbed her 19 times.

She managed to roll down the window and open the rear door from the outside, and then rolled out of the car onto Atlantic Avenue in Ventnor. Legette sped off; witnesses called 911.

He was arrested 18 days after the attack. Authorities say the victim's DNA was found in his vehicle.

Legette will serve his time in state prison.
