NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) -- It's a long prison sentence for the Bucks county funeral director who stole more than $300,000 from more than 50 people who had pre-paid for funeral services.

Bucks County Judge Diane Gibbons told 54-year-old David Faust, with his million dollar property in Hulmeville, with a big pool and a big house, he was living the high-life while the people he swindled were struggling to bury their loved ones.

She sentenced him to nine to 18 years in prison followed by nine years probation, and he's ordered to pay back $430,000 to both his victims and the Social Security disability fund.

Sentencing was scheduled for August, but Faust asked for a delay in hopes of raising money to pay back the victims, but it turns out there was an unpaid additional mortgage on his property.

"He knew exactly what encumbrances were on this property, what was available for restitution," said prosecutor Marc Furber. "He knew at the end there was going to be very, very little, and he still kept up the charade."

Faust pleaded guilty to stealing $300,000 of money earmarked for pre-paid funeral services, and another $130,000 in Social Security disability funds.

He also forged death certificates, including one for a woman who was still alive.

Faust apologized to his family and to his victims, saying he never wanted to hurt anyone.
