OCEAN CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — It’s been a banner year for many businesses down the shore, and some stores on the Ocean City boardwalk say they may owe Mother Nature a thank you card.

“It’s been one of the busiest (summers) probably in the past few years for sure," said Shay DeMarco, who works at 7th Street Surf Shop.

DeMarco says sunshine has a lot to do with that.

Aleta, who works a few shops down at Pessano’s Variety Store, agrees.

“This summer was a fabulous year for business because we didn’t have a ton of rain. Rain makes a big difference. People come and when it rains they don’t want to go shopping on the boardwalk. I’m excited about the summer being here and gone," Aleta said.

Because many stores will stay open throughout the fall and some even beyond that, Aleta says she's happy the locals will get to enjoy the stores with less crowds.
