CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — When Officer Tony Forney's wife, Ronni, went through a myriad of health issues, his fellow officers were more than willing to lend a helping hand.

Ronni Forney was forced to quit her job doing clerical work at the corporate office of a local bank due to her illnesses. Bills pilled up, making finances a struggle for the family of five.
But the Camden Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 218 stepped in, and they are now raising money on the officer's behalf.

Rick Kunkel, president of FOP Lodge 218, decided to call upon his members to help out.

"I'm a father myself," Kunkel said. "Just knowing what it's like having two kids, let alone having three and only one person working in the household. I can imagine what he's going through."

He hopes the public can help out as well.

The union set up a GoFundMe page for donations, which can be viewed here. They're more than halfway toward a $15,000 goal.

If they exceed that, Kunkel said they might reach out to help other officers in need.
