GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Camden County Department of Health and Human Services has advised a Code Blue to go into effect Monday at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

"Temperatures are expected to drop well below freezing," said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez in a press release. "During these extreme conditions, we need everyone to be sheltered and protected from the elements. If you must leave the house, please dress yourself and your children in warm clothing, hats and gloves."

The county urges people to check on elderly relatives or neighbors to make sure they are not left without heat or electricity.

Officials also advise keeping pets indoors during extreme temperatures. If you go out to walk your pet, keep them away from puddles, as they may contain antifreeze or harmful chemicals that were put out in advance of the weather — that means rock salt, too.

The department also accommodates homeless people seeking shelter during the Code Blue. People seeking shelter in a warming center can contact their local municipality.

You can reach the Code Blue Emergency Hotline at 800-331-7272.
