PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The amount of snow Thursday and the conditions it caused on area roadways caught many drivers by surprise. But it's safe to say those traveling along Route 309 in Montgomery County got the biggest shock of the day; a camel walking along the side of the highway.

That's right, the animal usually associated with the desert sand, to the amazement of all who drove passed it, could be seen taking a leisurely stroll in the snow along the shoulder of the northbound lanes near the Route 113 exit ramp, near Souderton.

The camel, who's name is Einstein, was on its way to an event at the Kimmel Center in Center City, according to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

Witnesses said it appeared that a van carrying the animal in a trailer got stuck in the snow, but it wasn't clear why the animal was on the side of the road.
